With apologies to Bob Dylan for borrowing titles of two albums and combining them.
We spent the day in Music City USA today. Up early and on the road we were in Nashville before noon. We drove around Murfreesboro and then Franklin, getting a feel for those areas and looking at houses and subdivisions. Around mid-afternoon we made our way to Broadway and walked around downtown for a couple of hours.
It was a great atmosphere. The Titans-Ravens game had just ended so we were elbow-to-elbow with football fans. The funniest moment happened when my oldest daughter, Lauren was walking downtown a few steps behind us.
She was pretty ticked all day today, not wanting to consider the possibility that she’d be changing schools midway through her junior year. There was a scowl on her face which had become almost a permanent fixture. She was so upset, she refused to walk next to us and chose instead to walk a good 5-10 paces behind so she could steam alone.
Suddenly, a soccer team appeared. A team of about 15 teenage guys all between the ages of 15-18. They had the long and messed up hair of guys today. Some had dark complexions with near perfect teeth. They were the kind of guys teenage girls get a little excited about.
After they passed I turned around and saw my daughter’s facial expression turn from scowl to very cool. Then, a bright smile.
She’s still not the least bit interested in a possible move but I think deep down she considers the possibility a little intriguing.
We still don’t know exactly what we’ll do, but I think my entire family would love to live in Nashville. What a great city. NFL, NHL, the music industry, lots of shopping malls (my girls noticed) and mountains! We’d also be close enough to East Tennessee to see the Smoky Mountains when we wanted. Plus, the job is one I know I would like.
On the other hand, this has become home to us. My business is going well and we love the house we’ve been in exactly one month.
Lots to consider.
